Commerce started early in the hills

Event Description:

The Bakehouse operated from 1878 to 1940 and offers a fascinating insight into the workings of a late 19th Century bakery with many of the baker's tools of trade on display.

Sited on the picturesque banks of Sturt River, the Bakehouse grounds are a delightful spot to stop for a chat and cuppa.

Volunteers from Coromandel Valley & Districts Branch of National Trust SA are onsite to share stories of the families who ran the Bakehouse and their role in the social and economic development of the area.

Gamble Cottage, cnr. Main and Dorham Roads, Blackwood, gives a peek into Colonial life and is also open on the third Sunday, February to November.
